Today is #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay, a day in which we recognize, celebrate, and educate ourselves about the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people across Canada.
A portion of today’s proceeds will be donated to All Our Relations Land Trust, which we were eager to learn more about at this year’s Sustainable Kingston Symposium.
All Our Relations Land Trust is a charitable organization formed in 2022 by urban Indigenous community members within Katarokwi (greater Kingston area, Ontario).
It offers a way for Indigenous Peoples to take direct action for biodiversity restoration and cultural resurgence and to safeguard lands for future generations.
They also have an "Indigenous Food Sovereignty Garden". At the garden, Indigenous community members engage in personal Asemma (Sacred Tobacco) ceremony and explore a collective “remembering” of fundamental relationships with Shkakmigkwe (Mother Earth) as a beloved relative.
